Captin George VancouverNotable Persons: Captain George Vancouver

The parish of South Lynn has been both the birthplace and the home of many interesting, even famous, people.  Many are buried in the church, the grave-yard, or Hardwick Road Cemetery (the 19th century extension of the burial ground of All Saints').

Possibly, one of the most famous families to live in the parish of All Saints' were the Vancouvers'.

The parents of Captain George Vancouver, explorer, lived in the parish of All Saints', South Lynn.  George's grandmother, Sarah Vancouver, owned land in the parish, and her funeral service was conducted in the church.

John Gaspar Vancouver married his wife, Bridget Berners, in All Saints' Church; their daughter Bridget was baptised at All Saints', and John Vancouver's burial service was read in the church in 1773.
