David
is sixteen and a student a the Queen Elizabeth Grammar
School, Spalding. He has played the classical guitar since
the age of seven and this year won a place, following
competitive audition at the Royal Academy of Music in
London, in the prestigious National Youth Guitar Ensemble,
directed by guitarist and composer Gerald Garcia. He has
performed with the ensemble at the Bolivar Hall in London
and this year at the World Youth Guitar Festival alongside
the Eden-Stell Guitar Duo.
David studies with international concert artist Mark
Ashford, who is head of guitar studies at Birmingham
Conservatoire and Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama
in London.
Last year
David played the Vivaldi Guitar Concerto with Anglia
Concertante at All Saints, a performance he is to repeat at
Louth in Lincolnshire early in 2008 with the Lincolnshire
Youth Chamber Orchestra. He also performed a solo recital at
Lanchester Early Music Festival of baroque music for guitar
and lute, accompanied by historian and harpsichordist Dr Ian
Brunt.
Dr Brunt is
currently completing two Notturni which he has written
especially for David for solo guitar which he hopes to
premier next year at All Saints.
When not
appearing as guitar soloist David can be seen in the cello
section of Anglia Concertante. As a second study, David is a
gifted violoncellist and last year won the Rotary Club Young
Musician of the Year Senior Soloist award after giving a
recital at the Melton Mowbray concert hall.
David
enjoys all kinds of music and plays in everything from a
rhythm and blues band to a baroque ensemble!
He hopes to
study guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music with
Craig Ogden in two years time. |
