The musical tradition at All Saints' must certainly has its'
roots in the church's monastic past. The Carmelites or
Whitefriars, who cared for the church in mediaeval times,
would have sung Mass in the building - although their
monastic Offices would have been celebrated in their own
church.
In the early days of the King's Lynn Festival, the church
was regarded as an important venue, particularly for
performances of small instrumental groups. The
Chillingirian Quartet was often 'in residence' and
the excellent acoustic of the building lent itself very much
to their style of music.
In recent years, the church has hosted a variety of
concerts, choirs, individual vocal recitals, Orchestral,
Jazz Bands and Folk Groups. The visit of the early music
group 'Misericordia', playing facsimile ancient musical
instruments was particularly evocative of a past tradition,
when instrumentalists would have accompanied the
singing, from the days before an organ was introduced.
