 All Saints' Serving Team

All Saints' Church Serving Team

Sometimes the liturgy in a church with a catholic tradition can be quite involved.  The Server's Team at All Saints' provides invaluable assistance in our presentation of worship and much to enhance the dignity.

At Solemn Mass, we usually have a team of about five: a thurifer and a boat -person (who carries the incense boat), two acolytes (who carry candles in procession) and an MC (who is responsible for directing the ceremonial) - all assist the celebrant with the ritual.  At All Saints', it is our policy that, whilst we have a rota of serving which allows everyone to have a chance at the different tasks involved, we never turn servers away - whoever turns up on Sunday morning is allowed to serve.  Consequently, we can have up to eight in the sanctuary some Sunday mornings, and we always find jobs for all of them!

We are always pleased to welcome new servers, adults or children and, in the case of all young people, we are happy to accept them before the age of confirmation.  Fr. Paul believes that probably the best way to learn about the Mass and the Christian faith, whether as an adult or a child, is through experience - being in church, taking part in the Services and listening to the readings and the sermons.  Serving can be fun and, who knows, it may encourage a vocation along the way!

If you would like to know more about serving, please contact Fr. Paul.
